do traders have to work every day when markets are open. does that mean that traders can only rest maximum 3 days in a row?

Traders will have off on all market holidays (http://markets.on.nytimes.com/research/markets/holidays/holidays.asp?di…) and whatever vacation time their firm offers.
AFAIK, there is also a regulatory requirement for traders on the sell side to take a reasonably lengthy break annually. Well, at least there is one in the UK...
