Trader's Skillset?
As a day trader, what actual skills do you gain? I mean, what if you realize that you suck at trading? Are you screwed or what?

Hey guys,
I'm interested in learning more about trading and would like some advice on books to read, skills to work on (i.e. calculating hedge ratio, etc. ) , etc. I'm not sure what I'd like to trade but am hoping to find a little structure that will guide any self-learning.

Ability to meet multiple deadlines under time pressure Excellent knowledge of workings of financial markets Mathematical and quant skills What they like to call "Lateral" thinking Ability to handle and manage risk Quick decision making
(fun practice for this...go to a restaurant and don't look at the menu, when the waitress gets to the table flip it over and order in a matter of seconds)
and as always, interpersonal and communication skills
and when the bill comes quickly calculate each persons share with varying tip levels?
what about switching the other way? is it possible to switch into IBD from S&T after a two year analyst stint as a lateral hire within the same firm? just curious...
I heard it's harder to switch (lateral) from S&T to IBD.
