Trading 2027 Prep

I have accepted an offer for the summer of 2027 trading at a bulge bracket and I was wondering what are the best things I can do up until my internship to prepare myself.

Are there any courses or certificates that I can take to get a step ahead or stand out on the job?

To prepare for your 2027 summer trading internship at a bulge bracket, here’s what you can do to stand out and get ahead:

1. Build a Strong Foundation in Financial Modeling

  • Enroll in the WSO Elite Modeling Package, which includes six courses covering Excel, financial statement modeling, valuation, M&A, and LBO modeling. These skills are essential for understanding market dynamics and financial analysis.

2. Excel Mastery

  • Take the Excel Modeling Course offered by WSO. Excel is a critical tool in trading, and mastering shortcuts, formulas, and advanced functions will make you more efficient on the desk.

3. Learn Market Fundamentals

  • Focus on understanding macroeconomics, fixed income, equities, and derivatives. This knowledge will help you grasp market movements and trading strategies.

4. Explore Trading-Specific Courses

  • Consider programs like the Amplify Trading Internship, which provides practical trading simulations and insights into market-making and risk management.

5. Certifications

  • While not mandatory, certifications like the Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) or CFA Level 1 (if you have time) can demonstrate your commitment to finance and trading.

6. Practice Behavioral and Technical Interviews

  • Use the WSO Mock Interviews service to refine your responses to behavioral questions and technical trading scenarios. This will prepare you for any mid-internship evaluations or full-time conversion interviews.

7. Stay Updated on Markets

  • Regularly follow financial news and market trends. Platforms like Bloomberg, Reuters, and Wall Street Journal are great resources.

8. Network and Seek Mentorship

  • Engage with professionals in trading through LinkedIn or alumni networks. Their insights can provide valuable guidance and help you navigate the internship.

By focusing on these areas, you’ll not only be well-prepared but also position yourself as a standout candidate during your internship.
