Trading Assistant or Trade Operations

Hey all, I have been offered 2 internships and I am not too sure on which position I should chose. The position that I am leaning towards is the trade assistant position with a prop trading firm. The second position is trade operations with a large Asset Management firm. The trade assistant position is paying about 33 percent less. Since this is an internship, I am more concerned about which position would offer the most experience and give me more options when I look for a full time position.

The only thing that has me second guessing my choice is the brand name of the trade ops company. Is the name of the company more important than the position in a case like this?

No

My drinkin' problem left today, she packed up all her bags and walked away.

How well respected is the prop firm? I personally would rather work for a firm like Jane Street than Goldman Sachs, but not everybody feels that way. Goldman probably sets you up better for hedge funds. It's extremely hard to get into S&T at a top BB from my understanding. If you can get a job as a trader at a top prop firm that's a really good gig. Plus you can wear shorts to work. I just asked about going from a middle/back office analyst role to trading in another thread and it's really hard to do. It might be easier going from a MO/BO internship to S&T though. However, if you're going to be a senior you'll be applying against kids with S&T internships for a limited number of spots. If you're going to be a junior it might be worth it, because you can use that gig to try and land a S&T internship for next year.
