Trading Associate Salary Expectations
Hi all. Moving over from trade mo to a trading associate role in Boston doing trade implementation for the AM division of a large bank. 3.5 yoe. I am just trying to get a better idea of salary expectations as I find Boston salaries to be a PITA to figure out due to the lag they have in pay. Any input would be appreciated!
Based on the most helpful WSO content, salary expectations for a Trading Associate role in Boston can vary depending on the firm, division, and specific responsibilities. However, here are some general insights:
Base Salary: For a Trading Associate in Boston, you can expect a base salary in the range of $100k to $130k, depending on the size of the bank and your experience (3.5 years of experience is solid for this role).
Bonus: Bonuses in trading roles can vary widely but typically range from 20% to 50% of the base salary. For larger banks or high-performing teams, bonuses might skew higher.
Boston Pay Lag: You're correct that Boston salaries can sometimes lag behind other financial hubs like New York. However, the cost of living in Boston is slightly lower, which firms often factor into compensation.
Additional Factors: If you're moving from a trade operations (trade mo) role, the jump to a trading associate role might come with a slight pay bump, especially if you're taking on more front-office responsibilities.
If you're negotiating, aim for the higher end of the range, especially if you have strong performance metrics or relevant skills. Also, consider checking out WSO's Compensation Reports for more detailed insights into trading salaries by role and location.
