Trading Degree

Hello, I have recently been admitted to JMU. I applied there because their student-led investment fund is known to be one of the best in the country. Another reason is because of their quantitative finance program. I want to be a trader most likely in commodities. I would major in finance with a minor in math and economics. Would this program give me an upper leg compared to other candidates? Is it worth going through this hard course load and sacrificing a high GPA? Or would I be better off majoring in Finance getting a high GPA and transferring to a college like UVA?

Thank you

To be blunt, probably not - I really doubt employers are going to care about any of the factors you mentioned. Undergrad major is also pretty irrelevant for the most part but if I were to give a general rec, would just major in what genuinely interests you. If in doubt, I would lean towards something technical/quantitative, like CS or Math. Best broad advice I could give you in your position is to focus on getting a high GPA and maybe transfer to a target/semi-target. None of the things I told you are really "make or break", just common knowledge AFAIK.
