Trading Desk ppl - is this normal?

I have to tell my boss every time that I get up to use the bathroom. I literally have to say “going to the bathroom”. It’s like I’m back in elementary school.

I guess I kinda understand during market hours… but I have to do it after market hours too. Is this normal or is my boss just a freak..?

During market hours it was normal when I worked from home. Although, I did work in a high intensity almost non stop market so knowing we weren’t on our desk was important.

Normal during market hours (though you don’t necessarily need to give the detail that you are going to the toilet, usually saying you’re going off-desk is sufficient). After market hours it depends; if you have any after hours responsibilities that you haven’t completed (like maybe you are waiting on a trade booking, running risk or PnL, etc.) it is not that weird to let your manager know you’re stepping off for a bit but as an overarching rule it’s odd. Is your manager in the same office with you in-person ?
