Trading Desk ppl - is this normal?
I have to tell my boss every time that I get up to use the bathroom. I literally have to say “going to the bathroom”. It’s like I’m back in elementary school.
I guess I kinda understand during market hours… but I have to do it after market hours too. Is this normal or is my boss just a freak..?
After market hours is kind of weird but if something blows up then they need to know where you’re at so I guess it isn’t that weird.
Agree with this. Makes sense during market hours, but don’t know why it would matter during off-market hours.
Did he give you a leash and collar too?
He might as well. Like I asked… is he just a freak? Lol
This in not even normal in trading hours to my opinion…
During market hours it was normal when I worked from home. Although, I did work in a high intensity almost non stop market so knowing we weren’t on our desk was important.
definitely normal for a flow seat during market hours. everyone needs to know who is available to price things so its just a matter of coordinating who is doing what.
Pretty normal...
Seems weird. For me during market hours a simple 'be right back' or saying 'off desk' is enough aslong as the whole team hears me.
Out if market hours completely weird
It’s pretty normal tbh - for better or worse. I say it when I leave for lunch, but the more senior traders on my desk have said that in the past, they’d even say it for the bathroom and that you had to be back in 2 min.
Normal during market hours (though you don’t necessarily need to give the detail that you are going to the toilet, usually saying you’re going off-desk is sufficient). After market hours it depends; if you have any after hours responsibilities that you haven’t completed (like maybe you are waiting on a trade booking, running risk or PnL, etc.) it is not that weird to let your manager know you’re stepping off for a bit but as an overarching rule it’s odd. Is your manager in the same office with you in-person ?
