Transitioning via Lateral Moves

I currently work at a small commodity house (~$100M gross/ year). I've only been at the company for 3 months, but I came in with the end game of transitioning to one of the majors (think Vitol, Glencore, or Trafigura). How do I make the transition? Is Anyone familiar with the process?

Also considering the niche reality of the field, what are the exit ops? ...... paper trading?...
