Vitol Ags
Anybody know what happened to vitol in the ag trading space? They snapped up some folks a couple years ago and I don't know if they've traded anything since then. Did they shut that unit down or just focusing on a particular product?

They trade massive size. They recently got busted for trading cattle over the spec position limit.

Believe it or not, that's not even that big of size. Mind you, these are spread positions across the curve. So what this is, as the contract slowly moves towards settlements, there is only a certain amount of contracts you're allowed to hold else you have to sell the contracts or get fined. That's why it's surprising to see this. Like as a trader, you should know to slowly get out of the position day by day so this doesn't happen. Whatever you got to do, whether it's through the screen or OTC and you even have other traders on your desk who can help you. Your clearing broker literally reaches out to you and stress this so you don't forget.
I am talking about cattle specifically - which is what this thread is about. It's obviously pretty big size relative to the liquidity of that specific contract or the CME wouldn't set the spec limit where they did.
Also, my comment was more in general about the size of positions they swing in the ag market.
