Want to move to trading

I have been working at a BB in IBD, but want to move to trading. I have searched through the forums and have seen the typical response of "well why didn't you do it straight from ug" etc. Fact is I had to line up a job for family reasons, and it is what I had in hand at the time. Now that I am into it, I feel the desire to get out and pursue trading, where I think my passion actually lies.

So my question is, is it still possible for me to make a switch to trading? Whether that be a a bank or a prop trading firm coming in as a trading assistant/trainee etc. I know networking is going to be the biggest component in trying to make a switch, but will my time in IBD be a hindrance to making a move?
