They dont. BBG Chat is defacto messaging system but most people arent comfortable really chatting there in a normal forthcoming capacity as its monitored by both employers and regulators.
refined products trader at a major here - mostly just use ice chat to talk to brokers and put in orders / ask about flow. i do connect with my industry contacts but most of the time market color discussions are limited to avoid any impression of MNPI.
once you get well acquainted, brokers might add you to whatsapp groups. most substantial discussion happens via personal phones or in person.
