Where do traders chat online?

I'm in the oil trading business, working as a derivatives trader. I'm just curious where do other commodity traders usually chat online. I know for the O&G side its ICE chat, many years ago it used to be yahoo chat. Where do metals and ag traders usually chat online?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, there isn't a specific mention of where metals and agricultural commodity traders chat online. However, in the oil and gas sector, platforms like ICE chat are commonly used, as you mentioned. For other commodities like metals and agriculture, traders often rely on informal communication channels such as emails, phone calls, and even verbal agreements to conduct business. The nature of these industries emphasizes direct relationships and trust, so much of the interaction happens through personal networks rather than public or centralized online platforms.

If you're looking to connect with traders in these sectors, you might consider joining industry-specific forums, LinkedIn groups, or attending networking events to build those relationships.

refined products trader at a major here - mostly just use ice chat to talk to brokers and put in orders / ask about flow. i do connect with my industry contacts but most of the time market color discussions are limited to avoid any impression of MNPI.

once you get well acquainted, brokers might add you to whatsapp groups. most substantial discussion happens via personal phones or in person.
