Debt markets are something like a good deal bigger than equity markets; specifically I know the US Treasury market is substantially larger than the NYSE.
"As of 2006, the size of the international bond market is an estimated $45 trillion, of which the size of the outstanding U.S. bond market debt was $25.2 trillion."

"The size of the world stock market is estimated at about $36.6 trillion US at the beginning of October 2008"

I agree they're bigger but the facts you provided include private high yield in which case you would have to include the private equity that trades.... The debt market stat you provided also doesnt include bank loans, mezzanine debt, seller-notes etc. which would blow it way out of proportion to equity markets...
I dont think its even comparable. I saw a graph of this once, equity doesnt even come close.
this is not an important question. this is your homework.
do it yourself.
IBanks generally recieve higher fees for issuing equity than debt though.

Debt markets are WAY bigger than equity markets
Sorry about that, but debt, no question. Most public companies have had to issue debt although it is hopefully for them outweighed by equity. Add to that the debt issued by private companies, government entities and more exotic fixed income products part of DCMs and you have yourself quite a market.
