Bit off more than I can chew

As any ambitious finance monkey, I moved to the UK for my studies and went straight into full-time (ER->ERM->PM).

Working in London for me was horrible and I told myself that when the opportunity arrises, I will move back to my home country. Three months ago I accomplished this and moved back, getting a position as an Associate Director in the Economic Direction Dep. at the new firm.

Now, said firm, operates in a multitude of industries and sectors, with its main operations having nothing to do with financial services (reason for putting the topic as VC is because the firm’s main business strategy is aggressive expansions through buy-outs, regardless of industry).

I was supposed to oversee the improvement of our business cycles in our two main pipelines, but now I’m being asked to update our LBO strategy, and to be frank, I’ve been winging it so far. I thought I had to improve our already existing operations, not be thrown in the deep-end.

I am an intuitive learner but with zero experience in the operations’ main industries and no hands-on experience on buy-side MNA, I leave you with three questions:

-How screwed am I? -What do I do? -How did I even get this job?
