Compensation for giving a series of lectures to Alma Mater

Hi all,

I graduated from a target 5-6 years ago, and went into FAANG after. I've been asked to be a recurring guest speaker (give 2-4 lectures per month across departments & programs) at my target.

It's cool to do this, and I run a coding classes company, so I don't mind doing it for free (as it might help me get some informal traffic for that). However, I'm worried about playing down my strengths by doing it for free. Is it common to do something like this for free, or should I request some compensation to be taken seriously?

You don't get asked to give endlessly?  I do, and even managed to pull off #2 in the under 40 age bracket one year when I got a very baller match from the firm.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Given back to your uni isn't really a thing in Europe, at least financially. In general I didn't like the experience at my target that much, although it helped during recruiting and landing the job I have now.
