Frustrated getting into VC?

A bit about me:

Left entry lvl BB Equity Research role and started a company. Went to state school non-target. My company was meant to be an experiment to learn what having a business is like in the spirit of "you only get one life"--it's more of a small fun company not some cutting edge tech company but it's what I rely on to pay the bills atm. It's been a great learning experience but long story short I don't see it being what I dedicate the next decade to and I want to go to VC... but to no one's surprise it's been hard

Questions

1. Any VCers out there... does this sound like a desirable background?

2. Any advice on getting that dreaded interview? The thought of cold emailing people "just to chat" when you clearly want something is something I did for my first job but it makes me cringe. So far I have been looking for openings on johngannonblog and emailing who the opening is under or just wishing for the best if it is not clear who the position is under. Headhunders mostly ignored me. I know no one in industry

3. Interview tips? I got one so far last week and it was just an unstructured chat, but I am not hopeful this firm will hire me after all. I have studied some cap table stuff, have some companies to pitch, stay on top of current events, and try not to sound like an asshole in interviews but lmk if I am missing something.

4. Feel free to PM me if you are in a similar boat or have some insights... currently just sailing through the abyss hoping to find an oasis along the way like many of us on here
