How to rank growth equity shops
In the recruiting process for a few growth equity roles and looking for advice - how do I rank the opportunities? (I'm from the long/short world currently, so I know I don't have an accurate perception of growth equity prestige). I want a role that has a combination of deal execution AND value creation post investment (many of these roles are labelled as full-stack and will have a sourcing component as well.) What are the tier 1, tier 2, and tier 3 shops I should be looking at? I'm mid-way through the interview process with a few strategies now, so I want to use this time to reach out to others that I should consider as well. Preference for the Bay Area/SF. Also preference for a team that has a history of internal promotions / where I can see a path to building a long-term career. I'd be entering at the VP or senior associate level depending on the Firm and interview process. Also any guidance on comp expectations would be helpful! Would also consider lower middle market and middle market traditional buyout roles or "growth buyout" like H.I.G.'s Advantage Buyout team.
