I'll be entering a consulting role soon in SF. I'm fresh out of college and interested in the PE and VC space (moreso VC tbh). I'm curious as to what the general recruiting process looks like for PE and VC? What does its timeline look like and firms can a consultant realistically shoot for?

I worked in consulting (tier 2 firm) for 2 years and joined a VC fund after. There are two avenues to recruiting - networking and using the recruiting agencies (there are tons of lists on WSO outlining these so I won't go into the details).
