How to get higher quality co-invest deal flow / fund access?

Currently working at a newish family office in a LCOL area with a few billion AUM. Been thinking about our VC strategy and the conclusion we came to was that the deal flow we are getting (primarily from local players and one-offs from banks) were either shit deals that only really came to us because they were not good opportunities and that they were not large enough to move any needle. $1-$5M equity checks really aren't worth our time.

How do we get better access to higher quality deals / top tier VC funds? We are not as experienced in this world.
