How to leverage VC internship

Hey Guys,

I'm currently a senior who's about to graduate in a couple of weeks. I recruited solely for growth equity/vc positions because I felt like my resume and going to a target school would land me something. I managed to get several final round interviews, but couldn't secure an offer. I networked my ass off during the winter break and connected with an alum, who is a managing partner at a vc firm. We had many conversations together, and he seemed to like me a lot. He mentioned that his firm was looking to bring on interns for the summer. I interviewed for the role, did a case study, and got the offer. It's a 4 month internship and I'll be doing various tasks (market research, competitive analysis, building return analyses), with minimal cold-calling. Most importantly, there's an opportunity to convert the internship into full-time.

The process all happened before the coronavirus really hit America, so I was confident, at first, that I would be able to convert the internship into full-time, especially given the fact that the managing partner went to bat for me. Now though, looking at a probable recession, I'm not so sure anymore. My question is, if I fail to convert the internship into full-time, how can I leverage my experience? I'm looking to continue working in the vc/growth equity space. I was thinking that the managing partner could refer me to another fund, since he has numerous contacts, but I'm not certain that he can pull it off for me. I'll continue networking like a mad dog just in case the worst scenario occurs, but if you guys have any suggestions or advice that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
