IB —> Series A Startup —> Venture Banking?
Considering a venture banking offer I recently got at a BB. I have 4 years IB experience and ~6 months of startup experience (not loving it so far) and this venture banking role fell into my lap recently. The work is primarily with Series A-C companies, the cash pay is a bit better than what I’m currently getting at the startup (obviously) and long term prospects seem decent given a good WLB and culture. Plus the linear progression banking offers (this is basically commercial banking with a tech twist to my understanding).
I’m really curious about if my prospects for early stage VC die out if I take this role. I understand a lot of the work is around early stage venture debt which is obviously more of a risk-off view of startups rather than the risk-on approach of VC but thought that exposure to the broader startup ecosystem in general would be good experience for me and potentially be helpful for a VC push later on?
