Minnesota Venture Capital Analyst -> NYC IB

Hey Everybody,

I could use some advice from people in the IB industry. I've done quite a bit of networking, and I hope my post here answers my question once and for all:

Background: I have worked for a VC/Tech incubator in Minneapolis doing forecasting/budgeting/valuation models for the past 4 years. I've always been interested in IB and living in NYC. I have a finance degree from a MN state school no one has heard of, but was very involved and left with a 3.7 GPA. I've been doing tutorials and studying the 400 question interview guide to prepare for interviews. I'm moving to NY soon with some shorter term consulting contracts, a wife who will be job hunting, and a healthy savings account.

My question(s): How bad of a plan is this? Should I target startup jobs and do an MBA to transition into IB? Should I target tech boutiques? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
