Miserable in IB, want to quit right now, can I recruit for VC while "unemployed"?

Current First year at a really good bank in NYC. Want to leave ASAP. Just got my bonus.

I just have had no time to look into funds, do industry research, get interview ready, etc. Is it possible to quit on the spot now (I would be so so happy) and just take my time and recruit on my own? Will shops even know I am "unemployed" right now? Would I disclose that?

Anyone have any advice?

Much easier to get a job while you have one. The first question they will ask is why are you unemployed, what happened? And if you just say you were miserable and didn’t like it. They will assume you will try them out and if you hate it, will do the same. Try to push back on staffings, develop relationships with your associates so they can hold it down for you while you interview at places. Make the time to do your research and recruit. Gotta find a way to make it happen

Would advice against it especially during this market. Secure a job before doing anything. I also quit from a top shop and it took me over six months to get a new job. I was well prepared for interviews and got a lot of looks and final rounds but unfortunately the candidate pool was competitive and had more industry experience than a second analyst that had quit. I also was targeting vc/ge and ended up having to accept another decent offer in something non tech related
