Positioning for VC
Hey guys, I'm currently a junior at a non-target very interested in working in venture post-grad. I've had some experience working with small to mid-size firms (interned with a smaller one last year, and currently an analyst with 2 this year) but feeling a little lost in terms of what I should be pursuing this summer. Would it be wise to go after a larger VC (ie Accel, Bessemer, Sequoia) or stick to gaining more experience with a well regarded portfolio company? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Tou won't get into the larger VCs you listed. Sorry, but it's not possible given your background.
If I were you, I would apply for Dorm Room Fund, then Insight Venture Partners, Lead Edge Capital, TCV, any growth equity sourcing role.
or
I would apply for a product / bizops at a solid series A company, then try to break into VC after 2-4 years.
It's not easy to break into VC and you're not going to get in by 'targeting funds'. It is a long term game. Make it happen
