What are the pros and cons of doing VC at a well-known/well-endowed family office vs. a traditional VC firm? Any comp and/or career progression considerations?

Not a family office pro or insider here but generally speaking family office have their own allocation strategies: some allocate more to risk assets (VC, PE/Growth Equity, Emerging market) than others depending their risk profile. If your expertise is VC/Growth equity, there are definitely denominator effect risk in which forcing the family office to allocate less capital into VC type of deals.
On the other hand, a VC fund would allocate all of their commitment to founders and ventures.
