Restructuring Background in Venture Capital?
New guy here,
I've just joined an RX Consulting firm out of school (not Alix, FTI, or A&M), and I'm excited to learn the RX business. I have a strong interest in VC, and plan to get into VC later in my career. Because I have started in a nontraditional position to get into VC, I have a couple of questions for anyone willing to answer. Additionally, any guidance/advice/thoughts from anyone is greatly appreciated.
For background, I went to a non-target school and graduated Cum Laude with an Undergrad in Accounting and a Masters in Finance.
1) What are the pros and cons of a RX background in venture capital?
2) When I start interviewing for investment team positions at a VC, should I play up my RX background or downplay it?
3) When would be the best time to start interviewing for an investment team role at a VC? Should I plan for the typical 2-3 year duration in my current job (like analysts in IB do) before jumping in or should I wait longer?
Again, thank you very much for any advice and guidance given as I start my career.
Hey, I've never worked in restructuring or venture capital, but there are definitely people that have made that transition. Attached a profile of a guy that started out doing RX at Lazard and ended up at Bain Capital Ventures. Hope this helps.
