Top Undergrad, MS & Internships. Whats next on my path to VC?

So just finishing up my MS here in the US and going to be interning at a top PE firm for the summer. I am wondering where my next steps should be as I want to maintain maximum flexibility. There is the possibility of converting at the PE shop or trying to recruit at the HF programmes but I want to maintain maximum flexibility for VC. That is my end goal.

I have considered PhD studies (I do like research & thought being an expert in a field like ML could help my chances at a tech foccused VC) also but just not sure what option to pursue as I feel I have symptoms of choice paralysis. There seems to be many paths I find interesting and having trouble committing to one. Any thoughts?
