Transferring offices internationally within an UMM/MF from the growth equity / MM team to the main buyout team

Hello monkeys,

Here is the predicament I am in: I'm about to accept an offer in a major city (e.g., London / HK / NYC / Boston / Paris / Sao Paolo) for the growth / middle market team of a MF. By all accounts this is a dream job.

However, my wife is in an interesting situation where she got accepted early into a prestigious programme in her field, one that us monkeys would consider to be of the same caliber as getting an offer at Apollo or RenTech; it starts in 2021 in a different major city.

Consequently I am wondering if it would be possible to transfer offices at a MF. I envision the following scenario: do two years as an associate in my team, and then lateral to another city given that I am a high performer, and start over again as an entry level associate in that city.

What worries me is that I will be in the growth / middle market team, and the other city does not house any professionals working in that strategy. What makes me feel good about my situation is that this firm does not have a strict two-year program and almost all senior talent has been grown in-house.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Can anyone opine? Thank you much.
