Typical Exit Opps / progression for junior VC professionals
Currently considering an associate position at a late-stage VC firm after my investment banking analyst stint. It is a fairly top-heavy firm and moving up to VP / Principal / Partner is not an option. So, it will likely be 2-4 years and out.
From LinkedIn searching, it appears that most of the firm's ex-associates went to top business schools, other investment firms, or tech corp dev. But, the sample size is not big enough to understand trends for opportunities.
I would assume going to a good business school is very doable. But, I am curious how others in the industry have done with going straight to corp dev/ other investment roles (not through business school).
Are there opportunities for junior VC professionals (associates) to go straight to corp dev teams at large tech companies? Or, if not, are there ample opps for these individuals after a solid MBA?
Alternatively, are there investment firms that look to hire these types of people for partner tracks with no business school (or, if not partner, at least for positions that have significant carry in the fund)?
Bump
bump.
The pathway you've seen ex-employees at the firm take sounds correct based on my interactions with late stage VCs.
Have seen a lot of the IB -> VC kids go on to finance/CFO type roles at small/med size startups too.
