Is anyone aware of VC firms that are at the inception stage - i.e. just setting up or trying to set up shop?
I'm in my final year of Undergrad and have a full time BB offer after graduation. In the meantime, I want to have a taste of VC. Ideal scenario for me is that I help out some guys who are setting up their firm with some Research etc.
How do I go about finding these guys? I'm thinking about getting in touch with MBA career offices at a number of schools and asking if they know anyone.
Good luck. VC funding's brutal for existing funds I couldn't imagine trying to raise a virgin fund in this environment.

To be honest, they don't necessarily have to have funding in place, as I can't stick around for very long anyway. I could take care of the Research that will need to be done to raise funding - i.e. using market trends/data to justify or develop a proposed investment criteria.
I wouldn't look to be paid here - rather, I'd simply be seeking to gain an exposure. I think it would be quite exciting to have a look at how things work at that stage of the game.
I think his point was more along the lines of there aren't likely too many brand new VCs right now because the fund raising environment is so difficult for established funds with great track records. You should just try and find any VC near you and just offer to intern with them for the period of time you can and tell them its not charge and that you are just looking to get a mental handle on how things work at a VC, as that is something you are interested in doing going forward.

your best bet would be to contact Angel investors in your area and try to work with them.
