VC Internship Case Study Submission: Advice regarding startup valuation
Hey (fellow) monkeys/chimps/hardos,
I'm a (extremely) non-target student from a non-finance/accounting background, with an opportunity to intern in venture capital (NYC) for the summer of 2020. I have to present an investment opportunity for their firm, and I've selected a company with a solid technology/business model. The type of case study submissio doesn't matter, but I do want to submit somewhat of a valuation of the company, from a financial standpoint.
My problem: I have a single accounting class, and a single economics under my belt, and I'm enrolled in a financial modeling certification, but it starts after the deadline for submission. I essentially know nothing about financial valuation.
Advice on a financial valuation method to present, ideally a basic one to learn in a couple days? It would probably occupy a couple slides on a deck, but that's besides the point. I found this article https://www.investopedia.com/articles/financial-t… but I'd love to hear WSO's opinions. Also, I spend my days on Excel (Stats & Bio major) so that won't be an issue.
Apologies in advance for any dumbass/rookie/nonsense/clearly-doesn't-speak-finance vocab
I wouldn't worry about valuation. It's not really a meaningful exercise for early stage companies, and even if it was a later stage company, you presumably don't have any of the financial data to work with.
