+1 Cut your modeling teeth in banking then make the leap later. You'll have tons more experience on a wider range of deals in different industries. Then you can pick the right VC in a sector you really enjoy.

Thanks for the input, AcctNerd. I am just wondering if you are familiar with the decision making in a VC firm, like whether to invest in a company? I feel like it doesn't require a lot of financial modeling but instead people put a lot of weight on business model. Is the financial modeling skill necessary in VC world?

 

Thanks for your input VCassociate. That's what I feel right now in the incubator. It really didn't do any modeling. So what's the typical path to the decision maker in the top VC shops? I know IB > VC might be one. Is it possible to jump from big tech company like google or facebook to a top VC? Or maybe jump from a startup to a VC?
