Venture Capital Careers

So I have mentioned on the forums before that I am networking with a lot of VC firms and determined to break into the space. I'm graduating with my finance undergrad in May. My concern is what does it really take to move beyond simple analyst or associate roles and into partnership levels. I have read that most analysts and associates never move beyond those roles. I've also been told that if I want to move up higher in VC the only way is to get an MBA or be in IB first. Any thoughts from people who actually know?

I'm really interested in the industry, but I want to make sure I make the write move right now.
