Hi, I'm wondering how big venture capital is in areas other than the Silicon Valley. I was told VC plays a crucial role in Boston. Are there any other cities/ regions in the US with high venture capital density? and if so, which types of start up do they mostly concentrate on (e.g. internet, software, biotech, energy etc.).

The biggest hubs for VC would likely be Cali / SF / SV, NYC, and Boston. Apart from those cities, the density of VC firms falls off significantly. I'd say the next largest cities with a nice VC presence is Seattle, Denver, and Chicago.

yes, but I was thinking about cities. since silicon valley is not a city but a region, i did not consider it.
also, i asked for vc out of silicon valley, so of course i did not expect that someone would answer silicon valley.
Hence, I could not draw the conclusion that sv stands for silicon valley, as this does not answer my question.

Actually, because Cali (which is not a city) was also an item on the list, the list is established as a mixed set, such that each item is not necessarily city, but is at least a region.
Furthermore, as you are asking for the set of all items NOT in SV, then you can only ever establish an item's relevance to the criteria in reference to SV (either it is or is not), meaning it must always be in the discussion.

Just curious, how big are Raleigh and DC in your opinion?
Santa Monica (CA) and Austin (TX) both have excellent startup cultures. New Orleans is blossoming as well (along with the film industry there)
Raleigh probably non-existant, DC probably smaller than Austin/Santa Monica/LA/Chicago/etc.
