What to talk about with VC Recruiter?

Current sophomore undergrad with an interest in VC post IB. I cold-emailed a senior-level recruiter at a Mega VC and she was nice enough to schedule a call with me. I had emailed her cold-asking for a fall internship, but now unsure as to what I should ask about on the call. Any ideas for questions? I'm hoping to set myself up for an opportunity in the future.

Keep it short, here's your script:

  1. Introductions

  2. Maybe chit chat, feel out the conversation (oh where are you based in these weird times haha)

  3. If she wants to steer the conversation, let her. Just answer her questions at this point.

  4. Get down to business (I emailed because I am interested in VC. I have followed Firm's portfolio since I developed this interest last year and in particular like X, Y, Z portfolio companies / sectors. I recently saw Firm in podcast/news/etc. and wanted to reach out to see if you have any potential fall internship opportunities. I would be willing to [work part time / work remote / work for pay / work for specific fund in mega VC / describe your situation here].

  5. At the end of the call, ask if there's anyone else she would recommend speaking to. Ideally she'll get you on the phone with a deal guy.

To anyone else reading, another possible approach is to reach out to a deal guy and then from there have them connect you with the recruiter. Both are fine. Everyone in the firm talks anyway. VCs aren't that big.

Edit/addition: if you get stiffed, are out of options and really want to keep the internship possibility alive, and are from a respectable school, you can always keep the back pocket "I can work for academic credit". Don't ask your school first; if it comes to this, tell your school you need to make this work for such an opportunity. Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Great advice! I should've clarified on my post that she already told me there are no spots for a fall internship. I think this call is more of a courtesy. She said to talk more about what I may be searching for
