Would you use this startup/service for finance networking?

Networking is tough, especially if you don't go to a school that has a lot of alumni at major institutions and don't want to spend the money on Linkedin premium. I feel like there's so much more that Linkedin could do with the data they have to help those that want to network. For example, to go through how I typically find people to network with. I first look for undergrad alumni, then graduate school alumni. Afterwards, I see if there's anyone from schools in my same region (If I went to Berkeley, I'll look at UCLA, USC, Stanford, etc). And then I generally am a huge fan of college sports, so I'll look at people who went to schools like Duke, UT, UMich, etc. And I'll also look for people who were in the same organizations as me. Linkedin does not support this kind of search functionality and finding this data by yourself is expensive and can take hours upon hours.

With that being said, a good friend of mine is working on a service that allows you to input a wide variety of parameters (school, interests, hometown, etc) and pops out the best people for you to network with. He is thinking about rolling out the service first to people recruiting for Investment Banking and finance jobs. He's not in the finance world, so I'm posting this here for him. What do you guys think about this service and would you ever use it/pay a flat $5 for it.

Based on this, he's also considering turning this into a chrome plugin that integrates with email so you can easily communicate with these contacts. The service would also remind you to follow up w individuals who don't respond and would urge you to continue conversations w/ these contacts every couple of months.

Appreciate the feedback!!
