GS PWM internship 2021 advice

I am a freshmen at a non-target trying to get into IB. I have a strong VP connection at GS PWM. They said they would be willing to push my resume once recruiting comes around. Should I solely pursue this, or should I try my best to get an IB internship as a sophomore? I’ve heard GS PWM is a good team, and I know it would look good to have an internship from them. Would it hurt me recruiting down the road though if they see an internship that shows I’m not all in for IB? Just trying to seek others opinions and perspectives.
