Is FA/ RIA/ PWM/ IM in Europe also impossible for US citizens???

Hi all,

I have searched extensively for an answer to this, but cannot seem to find anything relevant. I know that IB is almost impossible for US citizens in Europe these days due to Visa issues and the fact that there are so many people with citizenship already willing to do the job, but how about other areas of finance??

I just graduated from a small liberal arts university, doing a summer finance internship at a multinational industry leader, and am applying for MSF programs in Europe for Fall 2014. Assuming I get accepted to the programs, do very well, and network properly.... what are my chances in landing a role in the career path of financial advisory, relationship managing, private wealth management (in a BB division or at an actual pwm firm)? For instance, if I went to St. Gallen, could I land a relationship manager stint at a PWM firm in Geneva? Let me also note - I have a lot of family scattered throughout Europe, as well as quite a few friends that could possibly be of great help in networking (they are best buds with wealthy/ successful individuals).

Thank you in advance WSO, you are all always very honest and helpful in your advice.

Every private bank in Geneva has a team dedicated to wealthy individuals from the Middle-East. Not sure how many positions would be available but they are always interested in people with specific language skills so I think it would be quite possible for you to get a PWM gig.
