PWM or corporate treasury internship?
I'm a sophomore at a target trying to decide what to do this summer. So far I have internship offers from a small PWM firm and one in the finance/treasury division in one of the smaller fortune 500 companies.
I guess my question is, if I want to eventually go into ibanking and set myself up to get a internship at a BB junior summer, which one should I take?
Depends on how small the PWM firm is. Is it at least known in the area/does it have several locations. I think the PWM would probably be your best choice. Even though the F500 might have a name, the PWM is more related to banking/finance.
The PWM firm is pretty small. I'm not sure how well known it is, but there's only one location and I think 10 employees.
Depends on what you'll actually be doing. PWM is more associated with banking, but most people who do PWM end up doing/learning nothing. Same with F500, but thats more variable. Comes down to what you feel is best, consider the pay and the brand names, but most important is the experience you get there.
What type of work will you be doing? Cold calling or asset allocation?
I'm not 100% percent sure the type of work. I talked to a guy who worked there last year, and he said what he did on a day to day varied. They did have to cold call people to get clients sometimes, but he said they also researched potential investments and mutual funds, sat in on client meetings, etc. Though this year the guy who's hiring said that he will emphasize the "sales" part more.
Hi guys-
I have the same question. I have full time offers from both Corporate Treasury and PWM at a BB (think JPM, MS, GS). What do you think is the better choice? Pros/cons? Exit opps? Thanks
