Tony Soprano Net Worth

I have nothing to do at work lately, just take orders from the MD and give the work right to my juniors and then never feel like reviewing it. So I’ve been rewatching the sopranos.

I’m thinking 500k on the books and 3mm of black money. And New York, like Johnny Sac, must’ve been making significantly more.

What do you think Tony made annually? Cause his house wasn’t that grand or anything. But there are so many scenes where he is just handed 5 and 6 figures worth of cash. I just watched the scene where he handed his lawyer 400k cash for Carmella cause he was worried he would be locked up.

I think net worth and income are two very different things here. Tony had a bit of a gambling problem as you could have guessed by the $200k he owed Hesh. Also, when you have off the books income coming in like that, you can’t exactly invest it in the S&P 500 and let compound interest do its thing. Plus, Tony thought the stock market was rigged so he probably had a lot more cash hidden away than he did invested. Cash buried in a burlap sack is a lot more useful if/when the Feds start seizing your assets but you lose the power of compound interest.

Funniest

Funny enough, I recently spoke with David Chase, and he said that following Tony's death in the final episode of the show circa June 2007, Carmella set out on her own and bought credit default swaps on subprime MBS and turned the little she had into a fortune. Charles Schwab over here...

At one point during the $200k loan saga, Hesh Rabkin says that he’s worth “under 6” and also mentions that Tony’s boat is worth “$3.2 million.” I think that’s the best data point from the show and likely correct.

Ton probably make at least high six figures. He doesn’t make enough for him to object to Carmela’s spending and gambles enough to be forced to borrow 200k from Hesh. Given that Johnny Sack was worth around 5 million when he was arrested, Tonyis probably worth a bit less due to the Sopranos being a glorified crew.

Writing

Interesting take—Tony probably pulled in millions off the books, but his lifestyle was more comfortable wealth than flashy, which makes you wonder how much he actually pocketed each year.

Yea I now remember the best saga and the struggle to pay back the loan. But to me it was more that he just didn’t feel like paying it back.

But his vices, like boat and the out of control gambling during the last season, makes me think nothing was really saved.

I wonder how the mob bosses of the hey days of the 70s and 80s, I wonder how the cleaned all that dirty money. They all lived in mansions in the NY suburbs, how did they show that income for the mortgages I wonder. The mob docs I watch never explain that.
