Top 10 Wealth Management firms in Southern California
I'm working on a research project in which I need to list the top 10 wealth management firms in Southern California including how much assets they each hold.
What's a good place to conduct such research? Or do you have any pointers or tips on how I may approach this?
Many thanks!!
First of all, what do you mean by "top"?
Also define wealth management. Wealth management is very broad and can include equities, debts, real estate, etc.
What are you talking about? There are different levels of wealth management yes, typically defined by investable income or net worth thresholds but equities, debts, real estate would be the specific investments offered not a type of wealth management.
And "top" is very broad. First, I would break it down between 1) BB, which have offices everywhere, think US Trust (owned by Bank of America) or P-BIG (Merrill's ulra high net worth, also now owned by BofA) or JP Morgan's private bank 2) Regional banks - in Chicago that would be Harris, Private Bank, Northern Trust and 3) boutique - would need to do a lot of research here. For beginning positions, the BB will typically pay the most as a rule of thumb. If I were you, I would find out what "top" means. You should seek out ones that have solid training programs would be my advice.

What are the best firms to work for in So Cal and who is hiring? What are the pros and cons of each (pay, hours, learning, progression, etc)? Anyone have experience or know any details? Much appreciated
JPMorgan is pretty up there now. There is also Goldman Sachs, of course.
I'd say Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, and Credit Suisse all have solid PWM/PB divisions as well but maybe not at the level of JPM and GS.
Pros: Learn a lot and could provide for solid exit opportunities depending on role and firm. Cons: Low pay, initially, compared to other finance positions. Long hours, but not as long as IB.
I have GWM and PWM experience. PM me if you have specific questions apart from these.
