WM Career

Hi guys,

I just recently graduated and landed a role as a CSA for a larger firm in wealth management. WM was one of my favorite courses and so far I love the industry. I am almost positive I was hired purely to assist in a transition to bring an advisor to the firm which has gone well.

However, I work in a suburban office and so far this FA's book is the only book I service. It's not large nor complex (less than 150 AUM and mostly commission accounts). A larger portion of the book is annuities. Most of my day consists of fillng out ACATS and other onboarding forms. I constantly find myself at my desk trading my own account in my free time (admittedly I don't have much of a trading strategy).

I guess my question is this: Are there many advisors who use more active/complex trading strategies?

I am not looking to leave the industry (I do genuinely like it) or trying to make some impossible jump to IB/PE/HF or anything like that. I am just wondering that, if I were to continue down this career path and be fortunate enough to build my own book, would it be possible/likely that I could develop and use a more interesting trading strategy? And if so what are the best places to learn about such?

Again, I just started my career in WM and admittedly can see that I am on step 1 and asking for outlook on step 1000 of a career. I am just looking for some genuine advice and/or a hard reality check. Hope I don't sound too much like an idiot. Thanks.
