2+2 Chances (Any shot at all?)

Hey All,

Just want to know if I have any shot at the 2-2 program.

Stats:
target school in northeast graduating in May 2012
3.5 cum; 3.9 major gpa in interdisciplinary social sciences with senior project
averaging about 660-690 on gmat practice. Not very good test taker, prob will max at top 600s. SAT's went same way.

Experience:
S&T top BB SA - will do this summer
Spring 2011- now: Associate of major international business strategy/research organization... had research project I worked on about social enterprise investment funds presented at world economic forum, recognized and acknowledged by number of top international non-profits.
Fall 2010 - study abroad
Sumer 2010- microcredit product development internship in Sub-saharan African country at top microfinance institution
Summer 2009- worked at humanitarian NGO
Summer 2008- worked at apple store
Summer 2007- congressional intern

Awards: won multiple major film festival awards for students for two films

Interesting things: travel to close to 30 countries, speak spanish and also studied 2 years college chinese

So yeah I'm basically a white Jew from the West Coast seeing if I have any chance. I'm not that strong on paper but my ECs are top notch imho, variety of experiences at 6 diff orgs by senior year... can get top recs from professors and previous employers if necessary.

What do you guys think? I'd love to get into 2+2, right now planning on finishing my social sciences interdisciplinary BA, and hopefully to returning to BB after graduation for analyst program. However, very active in social enterprise work/harnessing markets for social benefits (trade vs. aid) and I feel like bschools might really like this...

Anyone?

I'm not that strong on paper?

Probably not. The BB S&T internship probably looks bad if anything (for the 2+2 program)

Elaborate on how it would look "bad if anything?"

Impossible is nothing

WSO- Thanks, I def think I can write some great essays (my college classes are all writing intensive), and I plan on going the social-enterprise route... would love to eventually work in a emerging mkts social enterprise fund.... I read that Harvard is really pushing for more social enterprise-focused students... figure this is my shot in.

i have a very similar profile.. why would someone from an ivy/target with a bb internship want to apply for HBS 2+2 when the chances of getting dinged are high? i'd say the optimal time to apply for someone with our background is 3 years after graduation.

Yeah I mean I thought it was geared towards non biz majors... which category I fall into. Although, I do have an interest in business and social enterprise, I felt it was best prep for future to try and get S&T SA given what I'm interested in.

Where I'm not traditional is all the social enterprise work I've been doing over the last year, including an internship in Africa and continuing research and projects focusing on similar areas of business development in emerging markets. I don't know if this is enough to keep me in the pile or not.

Also, if it helps at all, I designed my own major... I'm not going to go into it here, but it is pretty unique and very cool.

Thanks for the stats.

Well, if you look at BB offer rate (according to top guy who told this to auditorium), offer rate in terms of 1st rounds given is about 1-3%, at least at this BB, so I guess 6% isn't too bad. Worth a shot in any case.

I'm going to try and raise my GPA as high as possible and work on the GMAT (not too hopeful about this getting higher though).

FOMC- then what do I say I did all summer after junior year? Seems kind of dumb to me to take off a prestigious job just because it is related to business.

I dont know. put some bs. activity. It's not as if that's all your work experience. As you mentioned, you already have plenty of good experience. All I can say is that I know 2 guys with solid BB internships at top banks who didn't get in - obv I dont know whether they didnt get in because of those internships or other factors but from I've read here 2+2 is clearly meant for non-traditional degrees/work experience. simple as. I also considered applying but decided not to since all my work experience is finance related, although my degree is "non-traditional".

OP, post in the 2+2 group (http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/group/harvard-22-class-of-2016-applicants).

You can compare profiles and experiences with other candidates.

Great profile though, good luck.

obviously you've got some sort of chance, but the long and short of it is that as a white jew male you're going to likely need a higher GMAT to get much of a look

recently I spoke with an admissions expert who told me that I had a strong profile (not 2+2, but standard admissions) for top schools, but that my GMAT was pretty low for a white (half jew!) male trying to get into H/S/W... I got a 730. WTF - I know.
