3 years of PE exp too senior to jump to HF?

Just a bit of background, Ive been working in a European PE (second tier up and rising fund with EUR 60bn+ AUM) for 2 years in Asia. Before that I came out of a BB IBD analyst program (2.5 years). I always wanted to work in a HF. I am considering whether I should jump next year (after bonus release in Mar 2020) or potentially a year after (Mar 2021). I talked to headhunters and they say typically people jump after 2 years in PE and as you get more senior it will be much harder to switch. Also would like to know if more senior titles would work against me in HF recruiting. I will be promoted to VP next year and maybe Director the year after.

Love to hear your thoughts on this since I would prefer to stay for one extra year to acquire that PE skill set (for advising on family business on the side) and be more well prepared (I have started to invest in stocks and getting into the routine of writing thesis). I am also admitted to an online part time master in computer science program starting next year so would like to at least adapt to the lifestyle of managing school and work for another year before a HF career.

Any thoughts and pointers appreciated.

Many thanks in advance
