40 MILLION AMERICANS LIVE IN POVERTY, 3RD LARGEST POPULATION OF POVERTY IN THE WORLD

It's very common for posters here to comment on where others should send their money instead of splurging on trifling luxuries. One of the most recommended places is Africa. We all here it: "send your money to a malnourished person in Africa instead of buying 10 pairs of Gucci loafers". But how about the 40 million Americans who go to sleep hungry every night and survive on less than $2 a day?

We all know the inequality gaps here in the US, but it seems to never resonate that there's a lot of people a few miles away from our top perches who can benefit from our charity, instead of traveling thousands of miles to remote villages abroad to help. It's the ultimate sign of elitism, Bill Gates is a pro at this--ignores the crazy poverty rate in his state, and seeks out the most remote village in a poor country half across the globe to bring out of poverty. Really? Wake up people.

Comment on which place in America you'd like to see more aid given. I advice young women to spend gap years in poor towns in America rather than hunting down esoteric villages abroad to bolster their resumes. Help yourself before you help others.

Many look forward to the day Asian, African, and Indian would be college students visit poor America to do aid to bolster their resumes for college.

Government certainly can do it. The thing is the political will, might and necessity is not there. People lower their standards of outrage and become boiled frogs without knowing it. In this case they accept and even revel in their poverty. Ever wonder how you visit poor areas and see people smiling all the time? They've learned to love it to the point where they won't even recognize the sucking pipe of money inserted in their rectums.

So the government is going to take 10 bucks from me, chew up 3-7 through bloat and give someone 3 bucks.

Makes sense. Meanwhile, I adjust me spending and savings to compensate for the robbery, thereby reducing what your expect to take.

Google Philly soda tax revenue to see how people adjust from government theft.

Meanwhile, donate your own money. I’m sick of taxes at this point. And I also don’t share your opinions or beliefs.
