8 Days to Prep - IB to MBB - Any advice/help much appreciated!
Hi All!
Thanks for the assistance on my previous consulting questions and I was fortunate enough to be selected to interview in person with an MBB in 8 days.
I've read through the thread below which provided some valuable advice, but wanted to see if there were any more recent resources available that would help me prepare in the shortened time period.
WSO has been such a great resource in my life (taught me how to cold call from a non-target to get into IB) that I wanted to come back once more for advice on the career change. I've been out of school for 4.5 years and am currently looking to make the move and would very much appreciate any guidance.
Additionally, while i do have one friend at an MBB, if there would happen to be anyone kind enough to either offer a mock case to me , that would be of huge help and could surely repay the favor in some way. (Or perhaps a way to get find live mock case partner.)
My current plan:
1. Review Free Victor Cheng Materials (Should I buy anything)
2. Review Structure Part of Case in Point
3. Develop my own framework
4. Drill cases
Hey, I'm more than willing to give live cases to you. And I have some resources I can share as far as mock cases, frameworks, and more. I'll shoot you a PM!
At this point you should build on your confidence - Don't do any new material...Redo your old cases and focus on staying calm...Practice some mental math. Wish you the very best :)
Thanks all for the advice. I've reached out via linked in and look forward to speaking.
In regards to new material, unfortunately this is my first go around at consulting prep so everything is new material!
However having said that, here is where I am today and would surely appreciate any further guidance, with 6 days left.
Day 1: Skimmed Case in Point, Watched Victor Cheng Instructional Videos on Youtube Day 2: Listened to first 3 (out of 8) cases on Looking over my shoulder. I was hoping to complete the full 8 but had a work deliverable moved up. Day 3+:?
Can anyone provide guidance on if i should continue to jam out the remaining 10 hours of LOMS tomorrow before starting cases? Or perhaps only listen to the "Good or Passing" versions of the cases? I've been looking forward to doing live cases but also need to prep for the PEI section and estimation sections alongside my work schedule. While I am hoping that cases are a bit less weighted due to experience, it is something I hope to have a good grasp on by my interview.
I highly recommend that you start practicing live cases as soon as possible. Case interviewing is a skill; you need to practice to improve. Watching videos on how to ride a bike will only get you so far
Thanks for the advice on prepping live. I've started that yesterday and it has certainly helped.
Due to the limited amount of time, I've mainly scanned the case books and searched for cases pertinent to the firm I am interviewing for. Could anyone provide guidance on if it would be wise to focus on a specific MBA case book in general after this, or perhaps looking for other Interviewer-led cases (and if so, what firms would do this?)
