AllianceBernstein question
Was wondering if someone could provide any insight into the Product Management Associate position at AB...or a Product Management position anywhere else for that matter...my feeling is that its a hybrid between a sales/operations type of role (pls correct me if I'm wrong?)
also the general culture/pay/hours would be helpful...
I read that the pay is on the low end for any job at AB compared to other AM firms???
I currently have a offer for a MO reporting/PM assistant type of role at a larger AM, and wanted to compare...
Interested in buyside research analyst/PM down the line after grad school/CFA/ etc
searched the forum but it seemed like everyone was talking about the rotational program or 2 year program...this would not be part of the rotational but a experience hire/full time
any comments/insight would be appreciated...thanks
I highly doubt anything called product management is "operations." Nor would it be sales. I would recommend you read the job posting.
"The Product Management Group of AllianceBernstein is in search of an Equities Product Management Associate to join their team. The candidate will report to the Vice President Product Director but will provide support to the Product Specialists and Global Directors. The Project Management Group is the intermediary between the investment team and the distribution channels providing messaging and communication on equity products. The Product Management Group provides thought partnership and strategy on product development and implementations. The Product Management Associate plays an integral role in providing support to the Product Specialists and Directors in their focus with the positioning and business analysis of the services and funds they cover."
(Note that the idiot from HR made a typo and referred to the Project Management Group. This is not project management.) Sounds like a very typical product management role.
"Positioning and business analysis of the services and funds they cover" seems a lot like marketing/sales/middle office work. Could you elaborate how it isn't any of those?
I'm not exactly sure how to explain how something isn't something else. My only ever experiences with people in "middle office" are people who do trade settlement. I'm not really sure what else the term encompasses, though I have never heard it used to describe a product manager.
"the intermediary between the investment team and the distribution channels." Distribution = sales. This should tell you that this position is not sales.
I don't know about AB specifically but these positions are more similar to marketing/PR/client service, but also has elements of product development/pricing/strategy etc.
I'd say both this position and PM assistant/reporting at the larger AM are good. At the latter, you'd be working directly with PMs and can show your interest in research and fundamental analysis. This one seems to be an intermediary and you might not have that close of an interaction with the investment team. It's more salesy i think because you'd be analyzing whether or not it makes sense for the firm to start a new product (lets say South American high yield) and whether clients have an appetite for that product. You wouldnt be picking securities that go into such a portfolio, but you'd be doing some analytics work i assume on what returns would be like, etc.
PM me, I have insight into this firm.
