Am I allowed to make jokes on LinkedIn?

I was looking to start a new position in the upcoming week and I wanted to post a joke on LinkedIn. Something like “Happy to announce I’ll be starting a new... just kidding.... I know nobody cares. Have a good weekend” Some shit like that. Or is that a surefire way to get blacklist from every bank in America?

Here's a good rule of thumb: If you have to ask whether it's ok or not to do, then you probably shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

More broadly, if you have to ask, the answer's probably no, especially with "Should I do this?" and "Can I afford this?"

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.

If you wanna make a joke just repost one of those BS stories about how "candidate showed up naked to an interview 30 minutes late but was so determined we gave him the job over many more qualified, clothe candidates #credentialsarenteverything #peopleskills #wanttoinvestinbitcoinanddoubleyourreturnssendmeinmailtofindouthow"

tbh I never purposefully try to come up with jokes. If I think of something funny I think others will appreciate, then I share it.

Is there a reason you want to tell a joke? Hoping some specific company rep or person will see it? Are you trying to make people laugh, connect with them, or just trying to broadcast a "look-at-me, I'm funny" persona?

As Warren Buffett said it, if it is controversial and it ended up in a new papers front-page for the topic. Would be comfortable with people reading about you said? You shouldn't post it if it satisfies the conditions mentioned above.

My linkedin pic was me SlavSquatting in a white tracksuit holding an espresso in an art museum for a while.

You can make jokes but yours isn't funny. But I bet a bunch of other unfunny corporate losers will think it's hilarious and Karen will tell Sharen all about it over morning donuts as they talk how they really shouldn't be eating them as they eat them.

No you don't. You don't need to cater to anybody ever. You might choose to. That's your prerogative. But be under no illusion that this is the only way to survive.

Dude just give it a shot. Next time you think of something funny, that's funny to you, just say it. See what happens. Some people might like it. Some might not. Why do you care. You'll feel so much better not second-guessing yourself, asking for permission, and apologizing for shit. Life is way better if you just do and say whatever you want.

"Mojo_Jojo"Am I Allowed To Make Jokes On LinkedIn?

No. You can be funny on linkedin in the way that you can be funny on conference calls with people you barely know, but "making jokes" is stupid.

Also this isn't even funny

digital footprints are forever. do you really want to risk it when the recruiter is trying to look for red flags before inviting you for the superday that you've been working so hard for?

if you want to be relevant in the social media space then repost articles published by the firms where you want to eventually be or better yet read the article(s) that IB MD's post every now and then and post a question in the comment section.

Something to keep in mind: people use social media sites for very specific things. Linkedin is a professional networking tool that is used for, well, professional networking. Jokes aren't really fitting with its raison d'etre, which means even if the joke isn't offensive or even if it's a good joke, most people will be put off by it. It's the same reason why YouTube doesn't have intelligent comments from bankers or Snapchat has classical piano concerts: the medium and message don't gel.
