Am i smart enough?

Hi Guys!

I'm starting to get a little bit worried about my future.

Basically, I don't have much in the way of formal education. I had a tough time during school for personal reasons and therefore didn't achieve a great deal at the end of my GCSE's / A Levels.

I'm 21 now and have just started a diploma in Economics hoping to get into the trading world at some point, but after just looking through job postings online, a lot of them seem to ask for a 'top education' and phd's etc which i don't have and don't really want (the phd that is).

I was planning to do a distance learning degree with the London School of Economics in Banking and Finance next year and am no longer sure that this will be enough. What do you think?

Are there any ways to side step the degree and perhaps do an intensive trading course (if such thing exists that is) as i'm quite eager to get going.

Right now I don't fully understand all the terminology and differences between like Hedge funds and prop trading etc but I've done a lot of research on the jobs and know thats the area i want to go into.

Sorry for the long post. any help would be hugely appreciated.

You can't side step the degree man, just the way it is. You would benefit a great deal from finding some kind of work in a trading shop or HF in your area. Having some kind of actual experience would be a good start.

Right ok thats a shame! Do you think a distance learning degree will be enough though? On the one hand it shows a degree of self control and organisation that isn't present with a normal degree, but then again it's not actually at a uni. When you say work there, what exactly could i do?

Online degree is a WAAYYY long shot but there was a guy on here awhile back that got his degree online and ended up in private banking at Chase or something. You would do whatever they want you to do, plain and simple. Obviously experiences vary but it would, more than likely, start out as nothing but bitch work.
