Anybody ever had work cancelled because of snow?
Philly just got 23.2 in of snow! That's usually what we get in an entire winter!
How often do employers say "Ya know if ya can't make it in, don't worry about it."?

Pretty sure there's a law on this?
Also, I would assume if you got into a wreck or something it would be your principal's liability so I doubt they'd MAKE you come....
Happens all the time in NYC, although not sure there are any banks in Pennsylvania.
This can go two ways, depending on how miserable your bank is. Most will cancel work and give you the day off, although you will probably still be expected to answer emails and move a few things forward from home.
At some places though, even if the "official" policy is that the bank is closed on that day, you'll be required to come in anyway - same principal as a lot of those bank "holidays" that we dont' really get off.
Is the school bus going to be able to pick you up?
Hahaha, there could be a raging hurricane and we would still work. Although, I'm not in Philly
What the fuck are you doing at home anyway? Shouldn't you already be at work???
everyone has remote access, so work continues...keep spreading comps and doing PIBs, bitch
eiffeltowered - pardon my ignorance, but how useful would doing a PIB at home be? senior bankers can't possibly be asked to read a PDF of a PIB, lol...
Who else is snowed in? (Originally Posted: 02/10/2013)
Hey guys, here my problem. I am snowed in right now, there is 38 inches of snow in my driveway and the street. My town hasn't even begun to plow the roads since the plows are to small and there is a limited number of front loaders. I have a super day at a BB tomorrow (monday) and two interviews with hedge funds on Tuesday and Wednesday. I don't think I will have a problem moving the hedge fund interviews because they are in CT as well. How should I go about moving the BB superday? I have emailed HR and the interviewers and am awaiting a response. Will I get an auto ding if I can't show up for superday because of snow?
How many of you monkeys probably can't to work tomorrow because your snowed in and Metro North won't run past Stamford?
Just phone them first thing in the morning and explain the situation, it will be fine.
Snow and interviews (Originally Posted: 01/24/2014)
hey guys, i have some interviews scheduled next week and i need to travel into nyc. it's supposed to be snowing, so i'll need my snow boots, but ill definitely want to change out of them and put on formal shoes when i get to the office.
i guess my question is, what i do with my snow boots? im sure someone has been a similar situation, did the place have a "coat check" or something, or did you just leave them in a lobby??
thanks!
I don't think I've ever seen someone in a suit wearing "snow boots" in nyc before. I imagine those being large mountainous boots. You can just get weather sleeves to go over your shoes or wear a pair of sneakers and put them in a bag. I assume you're carrying your resume in something correct?
Yea, get a pair of rubber overshoe loafers: http://www.amazon.com/Totes-Geometric-Overshoe-Size-9-5/dp/B002NWZLTS
More importantly though... it's not supposed to snow in NYC next week. We already got hit with the snowstorm this week.
Good luck in the interviews.
thanks for info!

Yet another day with a free schedule where I'm planning on doing exactly nothing except maybe getting tipsy by 3 pm. Anyone else lucky enough to be at home today?
No
yes, but I work from home...
you lucky shit
yes, yes I am.
Not in NY but "working" from home today as well. I'm less productive but god it's so relaxing.
Only one on my floor in Charlotte. Having a pants off dance off if anyone wants to join
2 SB if you piss on your boss' desk
at work as usual.
DEAL FLOW DONT START TILL I WALK IN
Fuck this weather. I was supposed to fly out to Vail for the holiday weekend and can't now because all flights are being cancelled.
My boss was complaining that he wished he took his Hawaiian vacation this winter instead of last year. Only in hindsight...
"Working from home" today...that just means I can cruise WSO extra hard.
If I was at my old job, I would've already taken a shit in my boss' drawer.
Made the fatal mistake of going out to get lunch today; literally could not cross the street because there was a pile of snow atop a 6ft wide puddle on the curb. Had to get a running start and jump the bastard.
Yup...In the office
In the office but took a two hour lunch
Worked from home today in NYC. Boss wasn't happy. Whoops.
@FeelingMean : I think this winter will be responsible for the creation of many dozens of Black metal bands.
Maybe it'll force Ihsahn and Matt Heafy to start working on Mrityu.
The Trans Chiberian Orchestra ?
Of course I was the only dumbass in the office today. Even my boss sent an email saying wtf are you doing in today.
More snow coming tomorrow
Who's snowed in? Who made it to work? (Originally Posted: 12/27/2010)
So its 7:30AM who made it into work ok? who is stranded in a hotel? anyone at an airport? Who is stuck in their apartment unable to make the trek into work?
I got stuck on the beach ... overwhelming sunshine and warm weather just drew me in. Couldn't stop it. Maybe I'll do some work tomorrow...
I did take a moment to check the flight schedule at Logan Airport. New England must be getting KILLED --- almost every damn flight is canceled. Best of luck to those of you traveling this season.
MUST BE NICE, C. ;)
Good luck getting back - It's a mess here.
I was able to fly back yesterday (just as snow was starting to come down). Trekked through to get to my office. Thankfully, I live close.
You're lucky to have gotten back yesterday. My brother flew out of Logan yesterday afternoon and after some delays, he was pretty much one of the last to make it out.
Got to the office at 8:45 after shovelling 18in+ of snow to get my car out, sucked. Cable is out at my house, would be bored out of my mind if I didn't come in.
Boston, Logan is completely shut down... gahh
Even the trains are barely running on a extremely delayed schedule.
I couldn't make it in today. NJ Transit's running on an "Enhanced Weekend" Schedule and I can't get out of the driveway to even make it to the train station.
Everywhere is shut down. HerSerendipity, good for you making it home. Better glad to be home now than stuck somewhere, particularly when flights will be backed up until Thursday without any questions.
I'm in CT right now, we got hit HARD.
I am surprised I had to go to work this morning.
Travel safe everyone!
28 inches here. I walked outside to shovel my car out, and the snow was up to my knees and the sidewalks and the roads had not even been plowed yet. I turned right back around and went to sleep for a couple more hours
Woke up at 4:45 and the exact same thing happen.
Solid foot-plus in the city here... My senior associate got stuck trying to fly into Logan and won't be back until late today/tomorrow AM, MD is on vacation, so I am "working" from home today. City is too much of a disaster to even consider going in.
CB, I think this may be the third or fourth time I've announced my jealousy over the past few days. What I'd do to be on a beach right now...
Compbanker... you live in Boston the entire winter is one giant snowstorm!
Caught one of the very last flights into LaGuardia on Sunday- standby with no frequent flyer status.
Got home, bought a boatload of food and beer just in case this lasts a few days.
Got up at 5:30. Trudged through the snow (backwards- 50 mph wind gusts with sandpaper-hard snow) 1/4 mile to the train station. Security Guard was laughing at me saying I was crazy.
Walked 16 blocks after it was clear my connecting train wasn't coming.
Got to work at 7.
Kinda reminds me of winter camping in Michigan.
Stuck at home in Minnesota-people out east have no idea how to handle weather.
there is easily a foot and a half of snow in nyc which is quite a lot.. i wasnt orig going to be going in today but def hapy that im trapped at home lol
I'm at work here in the city, but only one here right now. On my way here, saw that Starbucks was closed !!
I hope lunch places are open today.
woke up this morning and dug out my car from under 1.5 feet of snow. drove my usual 40 minute commute, but it took about 1.5 hours. got into my building and nobody else is here. updated message on the hotline: my office is closed.
FML
That really sucks.
In Paris and supposed to be heading to the US this week. There's been major problems at CDG from snow because the French haven't invested in weatherproofing their airport -> all the flights got backed up -> and now, of course, the fucking workers have started striking. The past couple days have been relatively clear weather-wise, but I'm pessimistic as to whether or not I'll realistically be stateside by the end of the week.
Shit. I'm heading back there on Thursday. I hope they've unfucked the situation by then. I'm going through ATL, so there shouldn't be any problem there. I heard CDG was shut down because they didn't have de-icing fluid? WTF???
I haven't made a snowman in years, today seems like a good day to relive this childhood passion.
Hmmm. The night before my flight left, we got eight inches of snow. No big deal; it's frigging O'Hare airport.
Took me about the same amount of time to get to work today as usual - roughly 20 minutes to Grand Central. Was pissed about no coffee/breakfast and apparently a ton of places are closed for lunch also.
I was supposed to have a first round phone interview with someone in New York. It has been a half an hour and I am starting to wonder if the weather is the reason for me not getting called?
Skiing in Vermont. Come join the fun..
on the phone with killington as we speak...nice thing about being the only person in the office
I didn't even bother going in. I'm sitting here watching some thin volume and playing with the dog.
Atlanta shuts down if someone says it might snow in next 24 hours. Large number of cancellation last few days, so watch out.
You must get major fcking cred for being the only ones ballsy enough to make it in though.
