Anyone here went from IB to T2 Consulting afterwards?
I interned at a BB IB last summer and got the return offer, but I just didn't enjoy the work I was doing at all. Recruited for consulting full-time and couldn't land MBB, but ended up getting an offer at a T2 shop (think EYP, LEK, S&) and signing it. Just questioning whether or not I made the right choice just because the pay is so much higher in IB but I just absolutely hated the work there and felt like the consulting culture is so much better but I'm also worried that I severely limited my exit opportunities. Any insights from anyone who made a similar move?
who cares man it's very similar, and u said u hated it anyways so what does it matter. Pursuing what you actually enjoy and doing good work is going to have significantly more impact on your long term impacts
lol no. why would I work the same hours of half the pay
"Severely limited exit opps with consulting"? Your kidding right?
Plenty of MBB gets placed to PE (operational roles) or top MBA.
Plenty of MBB doesn't mean plenty of T2
This is your first job. Newly minted college grads need to get off the "dream job" wagon and realize your first job is about learning as much as you can while being as valuable as you can to the team. You want to become the guy/gal. Hard to do if you hate the work. Job A pays more than Job B...who cares? Both pay exceedingly well relative to the vast majority of entry level spots AND they represent a lot of money for a college kid without any.
If you're interested in the work and what it would possibly lead too, take it and run. Do the best job possible. No second guessing. Be all in.
Hard for me to imagine the same person being totally engaged and stoked about both consulting and banking. Both are great but so different, create different skill sets, lead to different paths, etc. If you want to run a company's finances, do banking. If you want to run the company do consulting. Very different type of exposure to senior execs. And you'll actually get that early on in your consulting career. Not so much in banking.
